The Junior Argonauts

The Junior Argonauts, you guys probably don’t know what the hell that is … well I know and you guys should know it too!

Junior Argonauts is an organisation that learns young people how to start their own business.

The first week of July, I attended a fashion and business camp with this organisation in Antwerp. The whole adventure started on Sunday evening. We all had to be on time in the youth hostel we would be staying in for the next five days! If I think ‘youth hostel’, l think about a wooden hut … but this hostel was amazing! The interior was sooooo modern and it was very clean! We kicked of the week by doing a game where we got to know each other better! We slept with four in one room. I had the best roommates ever, shout out to them!

The next morning, we had our first 'creation lesson’ with Anita Evenepoel! Anita is a professor at the fashion school (Mode Academie) in Antwerp! She learned us a lot of different techniques, techniques that only she could learn us, because we needed special machines that normally only professionals have. We pimped second hand clothing and made very special and unique pieces thereof! Beside the second hand clothing, we also got fabrics of the designer ‘Dries van Noten’. We also got help from the girls of ‘ietstof’: they stiched our clothes the way we wanted.

Every day you had the chance to work on your clothes, but there were also people who did the marketing, because at the end of the week we were going to sell our clothes in a pop-up shop! I loved pimping the clothes, but I also loved doing the marketing! We created our own brand and logo, went flyering, updated our various social media channels, contacted TV and radio channels, … I was not bored for a moment!

In the evenings, we went into the city. The hostel was in the centre of Antwerp, which was amazing. You just have to walk outside the building, take one street and you are in the ‘Kammestraat’, a popular shopping street! We went out for ice cream, fries and sat by the Schelde. One evening, we went to the expo of the master students of Sint-Lucas, the art school. It was soooo chill! I really want to go back! The monitors were also sooo lovely. If we wanted to do something, they did everything they could to make it happen! It was soooooo great!
